SHOOT 2- GRAFFITI AND THE INTRODUCTION TO MOVEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY
SHOOT 2 REFLECTED
My aim today is to photograph locations which in my perspective appear to look abandoned, old or used for second hand use. I would like to photograph in a location where there is colour such as graffiti as I could photo shop the colours from the paint to make it look a lot darker and grayscale-changing the perception on visually relating a colour to a mood or emotion.
I was mostly inspired and re-creating the images that Sylvain Margainne had taken images of because it really defines the feeling of abandonment, the use of colour within his work explores the darkness and negative effects of a location no longer being in use. I wanted to take inspiration by taking the angle of the image in the same way as he does, landscape.
shoots as he really captures the raw aspect of the abandonment of a location, I am going to re create his work by capturing images of what we see in society today as 'ruined'.
The first part of research is to find out how individuals feel emotionally about their lives, I looking at non-verbal language, A good way for individuals to let out their emotions would be to graffiti onto of an object or location, I believe that individuals who graffiti over an object which once meant something to somebody loses its meaning. I want to able to create a link with my shoot and Nicholas Bruno's work as he photographs sleep paralysis in great detail whilst including surrealism, relating the fear of afterlife by capturing images of graffiti or detail which shows a change to an object and location.
I am able to link the use of graffiti and the photography of a location once used regularly to my original theme of afterlife and death by acknowledging the change of worth to something when it has been ruined or distorted overtime, creating the feeling of sadness.
I want to take photos in a location where it is empty and gives you the feeling of being in a nightmare that you cannot escape, like a maze where you can't find your way out or a sense of panic where you can't escape a feeling of wanting to be free from negativity. For this shoot I am going to photographing areas of Bedworth and Kersley where I am aware that there are a lot of abandoned locations, I am trying to avoid capturing images which contain a lot of greenery involved as it takes away the concept of something that has been destroyed.
What happened on the day of my shoot?
My aim of this shoot was to achieve a number of images which discovered the colour distinction on top of different surfaces which are known to be abandoned, Firstly, I visited 'Smarts road' in Bedworth where I acknowledged there to be a bridge with lots of graffiti covered on either side of the pillars which held it up.
I began taking images of both close ups and landscape angles of the concrete walls, capturing the texture that the paint had on top of it. Although some of the images haven't been uploaded onto my blog I have got a contact sheet which is located in my evidence folder.
I then went to another location in Ash green area where I acknowledged there was old park which was not in use due to the age of the equipment there, I decided to take a fully landscape photo of the park to capture the lack of human activity there, I wanted to feel scared when looking back at the picure because I was going to experiment with changing the colour of the sky and the contrast of colour, but there is too much greenery involved so I was unable to seek the emotions I had in mind.
I had the shutter speed of the camera on auto so I didn't make any changes to the speed in which the images were being taken at, or the timing of the images being photographed.
I decided to increase the shutter speed of the camera when photographing the next few images of the close ups of specific equipment, my intention was to actually move the object whilst photographing so I could see if a contrasts of line, form or shape could be included within my work.
At the begging of this shoot I was actually thinking about experimenting with movement because I would link it to the approach of Sammy slabbincks work of space and movement in the sky.
I really liked the images I have taken of the equipment because the colours have been captured as a blur.
I HAVE ANNOTATED EACH PHOTO WHICH IS LOCATED IN MY EVIDENCE FOLDER
